The Moscow Sea Aquarium (the Aquarium, for short) is an oceanarium and a shop situated in Chistoprudny Boulevard (or Clean Ponds Boulevard). Fish, sea urchins, starfish and other inhabitants of the seas and oceans arrive at the Aquarium from different corners of the world. Hundreds of fish species are demonstrated and sold here.
At the Aquarium, exciting tours are organised for inhabitants of Moscow and tourists.
Located far from rocky shores, the Aquarium nevertheless provides a real "window on the sea", a window on unknown and unexplored. It is this element of mystery that supports the relentless interest for learning new things about animal behaviour, biology, chemistry and ecology.
The employees of the Aquarium simulate the natural habitat of their nurslings. Being a little piece of the sea amidst the concrete jungle and bustle of the centre of the Moscow megalopolis, the Aquarium will carry you into the wonderful and dazzling depths of the sea.
Unique in Russia, a six-metre (19.7 ft) deep aquarium is a precise simulation of the sea floor. It features many interesting things, from small sea worms that find their shelter on the sea floor like dandelions at the outskirts of a forest to the artificial current that sways "hairy" coral fingers. Such an aquarium will teach a schoolchild about the real sea much faster than any textbook. The Aquarium precisely simulates the natural biotope of coral reefs, which amazes children as well as adults.
Its oceanarium features a round 25-metre (82 ft) long aquarium, with sharks noiselessly cruising around.
A trip abroad to the sea might prove expensive. A large private aquarium might not fit in an apartment; however, any caring parent may take his child for a tour of the real oceanarium that tells many interesting things about its dwellers.
