Museum of the History of Galich (Galich)

The Museum of the History of Galich (the Museum, for short) is the first museum of Galich Town. It is housed by Mitropolitan Hall, an interesting sample of the 18th century architecture.

The Museum was conceived by Yaroslav Pasternak, a professor at Lviv University and D.Sc. in Archaeology, and by Metropolitan Andrey Sheptitsy; the latter, being severely ill, expressed a will to create a museum-reserve.

In 1938, Yaroslav Pasternak fulfilled the will of the metropolitan: he collected the most interesting and unusual finds of his excavations at Krilos Village and put them on display in the 15th century Chapel of St. Basil.

Exhibitions of the Museum offer extensive presentations of the historical and cultural legacy of the ancient town. Archaeological and architectural finds confirm that Galich used to be a powerful state and religious centre.
