Bandinelli Museum, Branch of the Historical Museum (Lviv)
2 Rynok Square, Lviv, tel.: +38 0322 72-06-71.
In 1629, Italian merchant Roberto Bandinelli established the first Lviv postal service, which occupied this same house.
The house was constructed in 1593 (or 1589) at the location of an older, Gothic building; fragments of the building are part of the house.
During the 1737–1739 restoration works, the main entrance was moved from the main facade to a side one.
This stone, three-storey house is of the Late Renaissance style, and it has a characteristic prolonged rectangular floor plan, the narrow main facade and wide side facades. Horizontally, the facades are clearly segmented by carnices, and corners are emphasised by pilasters. Some elements of white-stone carving have preserved on window and door openings, and Gothic vaults have preserved in the ground floor.
The ground floor is occupied by a museum of the post.
The first floor offers a kind of a continuation of the exhibition of the royal rooms. There is a collection of the 16th – 20th century European art silver, furniture, a 17th century wardrobe, a 17th century Flemish tapestry and other rarities.
The second floor presents an exhibition of graphics, The Image of the Woman in Art, portrait painting and documentary photographs of Lviv.
