The cinema was opened in 1960. It is situated in the very centre of Stiriysky Park in Samchuka Street. In the past, this part of the park used to host exhibitions.

In 1960, the Lviv Cinema became Ukraine's first wide-screen cinema featuring stereo sound. Later, when the production of wide-screen films declined, the cinema was re-equipped with a mono system.

Today, the Lviv Cinema shows modern films to its spectators.
