Church of the Transfiguration (Lyubertsy)

17 Chekhov Street, Korenyovo Village, Lyubertsy.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, the Korenyovo Estate (Korenyovo-Spasskoye) was owned by a group of great landowners: the Narbekovs. Since 1691, a wooden church dedicated to the Transfiguration had been situated there.

In 1762, construction of a stone church began by efforts by A. Narbekov and was eventually consecrated in 1777.

In 1794, a brick fence with a gate bell tower, which did not survive over time, was erected around the Church.

In 1858, the walls were repainted and the existing paintings, iconostasis's carvings, and gilding were refreshed.

In 1913, a small refectory was added to the Church's western side.

The Church of the Transfiguration, made of red bricks, was built in late Baroque style. The building's corners were finished with pilasters. Big, white-stone rocaille capitals, lower-tier pilasters, apses, and a narthex are the most distinct features of the Church. The later added refectory was built to match the Church's style, but its facade was lacking in artistic decorations. A small basement under the refectory was used to heat the building.

The Church housed a library and the parish was in charge of the State Zeninsk School, which was founded in 1891. In 1905, Prince Alexey Obolensky became a church warden.

Church services were held until 1932. The last Church's dean was Archpriest Pyotr Markov. After the Church was shut down, Father Pyotr served in other churches of Moscow Uyezd for the next five years. In 1937, he was subjected to repression and executed by shooting at the Butovo firing range in 1938.

All of the Church's original furnishings were lost. The building was occupied by a club with a cinema hall, and later by a clothes factory. In 1983, the Church was handed over to the Arts Stock's workshops. During these years, the Church went through a harsh reconstruction.

What was left of the Church was returned to its believers in 1992.

With endeavours of a Church's dean, community, and parishioners to reconstruct the Church, the holy site was transformed back into its proper form.

Since 1995, the Church has held Sunday school services for children and adults, and also houses a library.
