The building of the Kinopalace Zvyozdochka Cinema (the Cinema, for short) was constructed in 1961.
On 10 October 2002, the Cinema was reopened after a redesign. Today, the Kinopalace Zvyozdochka Cinema is a new, modern cinema of European quality standard.
The Cinema's technical characteristics are currently Donetsk's best. The Cinema has three auditoriums of different size, which seat 298, 105 and 20 people, respectively. However, the Cinema's most important feature is a special, cosy, home-like atmosphere offered to spectators during shows as well as before them.
What truly distinguishes the Kinopalace Cinema from other cinemas is its technical equipment. The Cinema's three auditoriums are equipped with the latest projection equipment:
– the CP-650 processors;
– the JBL Cinema Professional sound system;
– the 7-channel Dolby Digital Surround Ex system that operates in accordance with the acoustic requirements of Dolby Laboratories Inc. The system's main distinctive feature is an additional Dolby Digital surround channel that helps to distribute the sound evenly (each seat in the auditorium receives the same sound) and that preserves all the subtleties of all the existing special effects. This channel is implemented with a speaker placed behind each spectator, while the main, left and right, channels are implemented with wall-mounted speakers. For each and every spectator present in the auditorium, the Dolby Digital Surround Ex system enhances the feel of reality of what is shown on the screen.
The three auditoriums of the cinema complex, the Grand Auditorium (which seats 298 people), the Small Auditorium (105 people), and the Art-House Auditorium (20 people), are equipped with sound-absorbing panels made using the latest technology and with Pex Lux screens (made by Harkness Hall Ltd) that feature a high level of colour rendering; the screens are 12.5 metres by 5 metres (40 feet by 16 feet), 7 metres by 3 metres (23 feet by 10 feet) and 4 metres by 2 metres (13 feet by 6.5 feet), respectively. The auditoriums also feature extra-comfortable, Italian-made Lino Sonego chairs with cup and popcorn holders.
There is also a bar in the foyer; the bar offers the complete selection of all the attributes of the modern cinema: drinks, beer and, of course, many kinds of popcorn.
