On 6 September 1939, in the city of Donetsk (then Stalino) the Shevchenko Cinema was opened; it was one of the USSR's best cinemas and Ukraine's first two-auditorium cinema.

Its building was constructed to a design by the most talented architect L. Teplitsky.

At present, there are two auditoriums in the cinema: the Malachite Lounge and the Ruby Lounge.

The Ruby Lounge features a Perlux 140 directional pearlescent screen (10 meters by 4 meters or approximately 33 feet by 13 feet). Its image quality does not depend on the sight angle. The Malachite Lounge features a Matt Plus white-matte screen, with the equal light distribution effect and with an increased brightness coefficient (1.0).
