The Rodina Cinema is Dnepropetrovsk's first cinema.
The Rodina Cinema was constructed in the late 19th century by Germans and was then known as Sailer's Bioscope.
Starting from 16 May 1897, which was only two years after the world's first public cinema show was held, there, in Yekaterinoslav Governorate, on the corner of two streets now known as Karl Marx Avenue and Stolyarova Street (in the old times, Yekaterininsky Avenue and Fabrichnaya Street), film demonstrations were in full swing. Emperor Nicholas II himself, accompanied by the local governor, visited this "progressive" establishment, and in 1945, this pioneer cinema received the proud name of the Rodina Cinema.
During the post-Second World War period, showing the best and new films on the city's first screen, the Rodina Cinema was especially important for the city.
After the 1973 fire, the Rodina Cinema was redesigned by a team led by the famous architect Pavel Nirenberg. Thanks to the unique design and acoustic novelties, the Rodina Cinema became the USSR's best cinema. On 18 December 2000, the cinema installed Europe's third DOLBY DIGITAL EX+ sound system, which meets the world's latest sound standards (the other two were installed in Paris and London at the same time), and also applied the modern technology of the spherical screen (the area: 100 square metres or around 1.000 square feet), which today is the safest for the eyes.
The seats in the cinema's auditorium fall into three categories: the economy class, the VIP seats and the De Luxe zone.
The Cinema is conveniently situated, is easily accessible by car and offers a car park; the cinema also features two "cinema bars", a cafe and pool tables.
