In April 1970, the biggest centre of culture and art was inaugurated and got the name of the Ukraina National Palace (the Palace, for short).
The unique architectural construction of the Palace was designed by a creative team of architects P. Zhilitsky and I. Vayner under the supervision of the design author, the honoured architect of the Ukrainian SSR O. Marinchenko. The architects were awarded the Shevchenko National Prize for designing and constructing the Palace.
The Palace has a shape of trapeze and more than 300 rooms different in size and function.
The building is 50x80x90 m (164x262x295 ft) in size, 28 m (92 ft) in height and 152,000 cu. m (5,368,000 cu. ft) in bulk.
The Palace has held national and international social and political events contributing to the state policy in matters of culture and art, and aimed to expand relations with foreign countries and non-governmental organizations.
Playing a great role in social, political and cultural life of Ukraine, the Palace has been recognized by both citizens of Kiev and numerous guests of the capital of Ukraine.
Since the Palace was opened, many prominent Ukrainian and world famous performers have appeared on its stage.
After the Palace was completely reconstructed in 1996, other rooms decorated its interior including the big banquet hall of 110 sq. m (1,184 sq. ft) in square, the press centre featuring the latest technical equipment, and the conference room.
In April 1998, the Palace was given a status of National Palace.
