If you are tired from the city routine and think to have some fresh air, but going to the country side is not convenient for you, come to spend your day in the museum "Kiev in miniature" located in the Hidropark, a picturesque place on the bank of the Dnieper River.
The museum "Kiev in miniature" is the smallest city in Ukraine. Its rich exposition of architectural sights models, in the scale of 1:33, reproduces modern Kiev.
The opening ceremony of the park took place on 23 June 2006. The idea of creating a park of miniatures occurred in 2000, but obtaining all needed authorizations postponed its realization. While a part of the team was doing the paper work, the art school started to develop the project.
Creation of a mini-city is a laborious task which requires a high level of professionalism from designers and technicians.
Before building the miniatures the detailed photographic descriptions of original monuments need to be done. Then the work on the miniatures themselves can start. Therefore the creation of 48 models took almost four years. All the displays are made of modern synthetic materials.
The displayed miniatures require regular maintenance as they are exposed to the different weather conditions. Since the opening the personnel has been working on creation of the new models and maintaining the existing ones.
At the moment the "population" of mini-Kiev consists of 1000 citizens and their number is constantly increasing. In the mini-city there is its own Khreschatyk Street with the Maidan Nezalezhnosti (literally translated as the Independence Square). The mini-Dnieper River is crossed by Moscow, Pedestrian, Metro and South bridges. Monuments of the most famous politicians, culture and art workers are located all around the parks and gardens of mini-Kiev. In the airport five airplanes from different parts of the world "have landed".
The park became one of the favourite recreational places for residents of Kiev and one of the must-see sights for the visitors of the city. Lately, a new tradition appeared: just married are coming to the park where they have a chance to visit several historical places of Kiev in no time. It's possible as well to hold a wedding ceremony in the park-museum.
Such parks exist in many countries all over the world under the governmental patronage as they are considered to be national treasure.
At present the administration team of the museum is planning to make new miniatures representing architectural monuments not only of Kiev, but of other cities, such as Lviv and Odessa.
