Lake Pleshcheyevo (Pereslavl-Zalessky)

Lake Pleshcheyevo is the most beautiful one in the midland of Russia. Around the Lake people have settled at all times.

Lake Pleshcheyevo is glacial and about 30 thousand years old. It is of nearly regular oval shape and its shoreline is 27 km (16.78 miles) long. The longest part, from the inflow of the Trubezh River to the outflow of the Vyoksa River, is 9.5 km (5.9 miles); the maximum width is 6.5 km (4.04 miles). The deepest point reaches 25 m (82.02 ft). The Lake is over 50 sq. km (31.07 sq. miles) in area.

It is fair to say that you can reach the deepest places by boat only. There is a long enough shallow near the shore. That is why windsurfers and kite surfers choose Lake Pleshcheyevo or Pleshcheyka as they usually name it.

Several rivers and brooks debouch into the Lake. The biggest one is the Trubezh River that begins at the Berendeyevskoye Swamp. Only one river flows out of the Lake from the north-west side and this is the Vyoksa River.

The Lake is inhabited by 16 species of fish including the famous vendace (red-listed) or European cisco. The Lake is rich in the minnow family fish that numbers 10 species such as roach, tench, bream, ide, bleak, silver bream, crucian carp, gold-carp, gudgeon, and verkhovka. Other fish also inhabit the Lake such as burbot, pike, perch, ruff, and mudfish.
