The Kiev Cinema (the Cinema, for short) was opened on 23 November 1952 in the building at 19 Krasnoarmeyskaya Street. Construction works on the building started as early as before the 1939–1945 Second World War. Thanks to novel solutions, the Cinema became one of the entire USSR's model cinemas.
In 2000, the Cinema started its first major repairs in fifty years; the redesigned Cinema looks as if it is born again.
On 22 March 2002, films were shown again in the Cinema's Red Auditorium after the auditorium had been remodelled (300 seats).
On 17 January 2003, the renovated Cinema's Blue Auditorium (330 seats) was reopened.
Today, the Cinema offers the latest films from all over the world to Kiev residents and visitors.
The auditoriums are equipped with the most modern technologies:
– the Dolby Digital EX sound system that creates a participation effect; thanks to this system, most subtle sound aspects and special effects strike with their realism;
– a rear channel in the Blue Auditorium;
– a new, British-made, high-contrast pearlescent screen;
– comfortable Italian-made chairs with armrests as well as with cup and popcorn holders;
– increased distance of 110 cm (3.6 feet) between the rows;
– air conditioning in the auditoriums and other rooms.
The redesign works preserved the architecture of the Cinema. Its classical architectural style, combined with its contemporary repertoire and modern technical equipment, makes a unique aesthetic impression.
The Kinopanorama Cinema (the Kinopanorama or the Cinema, for short) was opened in 1958, becoming Ukraine's (and the entire USSR's) first panoramic cinema. The Cinema's spectators were struck with its huge, fascinating screen, with its most beautiful auditorium and with sound "flowing" from everywhere. During design works on the auditorium, distance...
