Church of SS. Peter and Paul in Kozhevniki (Veliky Novgorod)

The Church of SS. Peter and Paul in Kozhevniki was built in 1406. It is a bright example of 15th-century architecture. The Church was built with support from craftsmen-tanners.

It is a limestone church with brick decorative elements. Arches, a dome, and pilaster strips are also brick-built.

The Church is a cube with one dome. Facades are completed with three-bladed arches, the combination of the middle camber arch and two semi-camber arches. The facades are decorated with brick ornaments used in early Novgorod churches: belts consisting of triangular indentations (begunets), round and pentagonal small recesses, rosettes, arch (arcature) frieze, crosses, etc. The apse is adorned with vertical moulding fillets. The interior preserves the traditional style of buildings of the latter half of the 14th century.

In 1959, the Church was renovated after World War II. The restoration was managed by L. Shulyak and G. Shtender.
